Happy Awards Season: Let the fashion red carpet games begin.

By: Triston

It’s that time of year again and the world’s biggest designers (and those threatening to make a name for themselves) are clamoring to adorn the bodies of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Of course, there are always the tried and true designers and entertainers that always make the list every year with wining styles that grace covers of magazines in every corner of the world. What will be intriguing in 2015 to see is which up and coming designers and fashion houses manage to break through to stand alongside brands like Versace, Chanel, and Oscar de la Renta, mainstays on the red carpets for decades.

At this year’s Golden Globes, there are already a few that have begun to cause a few ripples in the industry, attaching their looks to burgeoning stars that are taking a chance on unknown designers to rave reviews. Here are a few of note….

Uzo Aduba in Randi Rahm

Uzo Aduba has made a name for herself quickly in La La Land for her star-turning role on Orange Is the New Black as well as making a statement on the red carpet by featuring new designers that the majority have not heard of. She continued her streak this year as well, celebrating her nomination by donning a multi-colored caviar halter dress by designer Randi Rahm. If this dress is any indication of the intricate work that Rahm can create, there will be more ladies in Hollywood vying to wear her clothes in upcoming seasons.

Jennifer Lopez and Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad

When it comes to making a statement on red carpets, Jennifer Lopez has been at the top of the list for well over a decade now and shows no signs of slowing down. Although she has traditionally worn some of the biggest names in fashion at past events, she has been known to switch things up and give lesser known designers a chance to shine. Case in point?

Fashion designer Zuhair Murad is a known commodity in the Middle East, but his name has received a significant jolt in the press lately after being mentioned as one of the dresses of note at this year’s Golden Globes. Lopez, wearing one of his creations – a dress with geometric silver beading and a paneled cape and long train with a sexy front split – put her almost immediately at the top of many critics lists and caused a slew of inquiries into the man behind the design. This Lebanese designer is well on his way to becoming a household name.

Model Chrissy Teigen also wore Zuhair Murad to the ceremonies, donning a pink beaded gown that stood out among the other women on the red carpet, as red, metallic, and muted colors seemed to be more prevalent, giving her the hue all to herself. The low-scooped back and fishtail skirt featured peek-a-boo paneling, showing off her curves spectacularly. The only question now for Murad is who will wear him at the next upcoming red carpet event this awards season.

Diane Kruger in Emilia Wickstead

German actress Diane Kruger is often cited for her daring decisions on red carpets and this year was no exception. The screen siren chose New Zealand-born Emilia Wickstead this year to grace the cameras and the metallic silver, floor-length dress did not disappoint. Wickstead is not only a Kiwi on the rise, but is destined to become an even more formidable commodity in the fashion world sooner as opposed to later.

Jemima Kirke in Rosie Assoulin

Jemima Kirke may not be as well known to most people, but her ambitiously bold ensemble courtesy of designer Rosie Assoulin is sure to garner both of them more attention. The silver-caped crop top and high-waisted white ball skirt was quite a welcome alternative to traditional red carpet offerings and expect these two to possibly pair up again for future awards shows in the future.
