Fyattah Jewellery is a new handmade jewellery collection created from beads, metals and precious stones with young hearts in mind. The designer, Edem Fyattah, is a high school student whose passion for jewellery design drove her to start her own venture at the young age of 18. I had a short Q & A session with her about her line and this is what she had to say.

What inspired Fyattah Jewellery?

I have always had a passion for art. I love creating things with my hands a lot. One day, I visited my aunt who is a jeweller and was quite fascinated with all the beautiful jewellery she had in her shop. I asked her if she could teach me how to make jewellery and she agreed. So backed by my family’s support, I learned all the basics. I took it up from there and Fyattah Jewellery was born.

What keeps you motivated?

I aspire to become a great jeweller someday so I’d say that’s what keeps me motivated.

Any designers in the business you look up to?

I particularly admire a Ghanaian designer called Yvonne Sefanya of Adorn Jewellery. I love her designs.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

My dad always told me to “suspect the people around me”… haha… and that’s worked great for me.
