Amanda Laird Cherry

“Groendakkies”

Designer Amanda Laird Cherry started off as a designer then her fashion route diverted to a reputable position as Design Director for noted surf label, Surfwear. After nine years, she decided to don her designer cap yet again and fashionable love of storytelling continues with her Spring/Summer 2013-14 collection. Inspired by a beautiful mind being an “intricate and wonderful thing and not to be taken for granted” , Cherry takes us on a stimulating journey with luscious earth tones all presented in interesting forms and cuts which at the end, powerfully exude strong and soft lines.

 Anmari Honiball

A finalist for the 2012 Elle Mr. Price New Rising Star design awards, Anmari Honiball’s latest season is inspired by the short-lived lifecycle of the insect — more specifically that of the moth. Their metamorphosis from eggs to larvae to pupae to moths exudes a mystery that is present in all things evanescent. Their cycles of life which can also be applied to our own, is segmented into categories and various stages where the commencement of one is necessary in order to move on to the next in a beautiful symphony of transition.

Muntsho

“Sheer Glamour”

Designer Leon von Solms was a make-up and hair artist for the film industry working with such celebs as Juliette Binoche before he delved into the world of fashion. He did just that in 2009, when he created his fashion label Muntsho. Looking to the streets of Africa for inspiration, his latest collection as part of the “Muntsho Sheer Glamour Collection” goes back to the iconic style revolution of the 60s and 70s using the visually enthralling beauty of contrasting colours such as blacks, greys, sky blues and gold accents to really give the silhouette an edgy fashion forward feel while at the same time giving an haute homage to the iconography of such a style history.

TWO

The brand has been around since 2007 with they debuted at South Africa Fashion Week that year. They started working with three consignment stores and has grown to now stocking over 30 retail shops across South Africa. Caren Waldman became the sole owner and designer of TWO in early 2012. Cleverly using her hone eye for graphic design from New York’s Parsons School of Design, Waldman uses her fascination with meteorology and using weather symbols and lines that are most commonly found on weather maps as part of her collection. All of this proves that inspiration can truly be found anywhere and everywhere.
