“The Chic Nomad”

It’s so inspiring when a designer incorporates culture into their designs, what manifests is fine artisan craftsmanship that showcase textured garments fit to be worn individually or considered an  essential layering piece. The studio presentation was well done as models circled the room prior to striking a final pose on the podium. New York based designer Laura Siegel, takes us on a world travel through the desert as her collection exhibits a medley of rustic shades in rosewood, hunter green and ivory all repurposed into chunky knits, tie dyed fabrics and patchwork prints.

Maison Matthew Gallagher

Here at Ramp, we adore and root for up incoming designers, so it was a delight to cover two for World MasterCard Fashion Week.  One of them is Canadian born designer, Matthew Gallagher. At the bright young age of 16, Gallagher completed an internship at Parson the New School for Design with women’s ready to wear designer, Tracy Reese. In 2008, Gallagher relocated to Milan, to continue his education, now 26 years old, Gallagher is on his way to establishing a solid fashion brand. For his Fall/Winter 2013 collection, Gallagher produced ten simply exquisite and sophisticated garments inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief.  Models strutted in staple classics like clean cut ivory wide leg trousers; red carpet worthy column gowns; an elegant black mohair ensemble and flawless navy tunics. A collection fitting for the well cultivated woman.

Sid Neigum

“The Minimalist”

“[I] really like clothing that has more than meaning, than just its functional purposes. It’s just a little bit deeper than wearing something for just for the reason of staying warm.”  Sid Neigum

Fashion can be viewed as works of art, and translating it into wearable fashion can be tricky at times. For his Fall/Winter 2013 collection, Sid Neigum featured a heavily influenced Japanese theme as models with tightly leather bounded high ponytails walked the runway to sombre music played by a cellist.  It was perfectly fitting and complimentary for a minimalist collection, some highlights were a raw edge leather vest paired with a jersey knit separate and cigarette pants; oversized collarless jackets in monochromatic digital prints; sharp tailored sateen tuxedo blazers and body con emerald green minis.
