From Russia with love.

In Moscow the Fall/Winter collection was presented as part of Russian Fashion Week. The six-day long fashion summit brought forth an incredible array of design talent. Here are those that made us swoon.

BEssARION

This Tbilisi-born designer was named after the great Georgian poet, Bessarion Gabashvili. With such a heavy tribute, one could argue that his creative destiny has already been sealed.  Bessarion holds the historic archictecture and scenery of his birthplace as sources of inspiration.  Having collected his career-making award, Grand Prix at the International Competition of “AMA’ in 1997, Bessarion was on the road to collecting more awards and accolades from fellow up and comers and industry icons. His fashion path lead him to Moscow where he honed his skills while styling  the Russian artists of the musical “Metro” as well as for the popular Russian band “A-Studio” as well as mastering in the visual-merchandising world of fashion. His Fall/Winter 2013 collection evokes such drama that can almost be found in a Stanley Kubrik film or in a Gabashvili poem. Homage to Russian ancestry mixed with potent doses of modernity makes his collection stand out in all of its drama.

Goga Sabekiya

“Reset”

A firm believer that time can influence one’s stylish frame of reference, Gogh Sebekov loves how innovation can be the trends fortune-teller often found on the brink of modern and classic. His latest collection from his line, Goga Sabekiya, is inspired by various segments of Russia’s history from Imperial to contructivism, from Catherine the Great to Fabergé and of course classic Russan folklore. The bold use of black and white and the very cool Kremlin silhouettes stenciled in various forms is definitely something that is very unique.

Marina Makaron Moscow

This American brand with Russian roots celebrates her Eastern European fashion sensibility with this collection. Vibrant is an understsatement. With each detail made by hand evoking a fond tribute to Russian folklore and the simplicities of village life. Graphic floral patterns, funky combination of colours lets you throw out the traditional fall colours and instead opt for something a bit more fun.

Tegin

Designed by Svetlana Tegin, this line’s sole focus is on the details. Specifically the collars, stitching and oriental buckles. The use of colours and the intricate use of patterns in the way of cashmere shawls brings forth the heritage of the Mongols. The clean and crisp silhouette, absent of any distracting hardware shows that the focus of this collection and fashion vision is strictly at the quality of the cut, the fabric and the beauty.  This is the arrival of the ‘female dandy’: a woman who is able to ‘combine secular gloss with nonconformism, sophisticated mind and sensuality’.
