Launched just three years ago, Muscat Fashion Week showcased their latest from emerging and stalwarts of style fusing heritage with haute couture, in this three-day fashion summit. Here are designers who made us stand up and stylishly salute!

Nawal al Hooti

From Oman, this self-taught designer has a firm place in the Middle Eastern fashion scene with her fashionable reverence to her roots. Third time’s a charm for this designer having shown twice previously at Muscat Fashion Week. Her aim is to propel and celebrate her culture’s contributions to fabric, design and textile. The brainchild of two Omani sisters, Afaf and Aida al Farsi, Dibaj is a collection of all sorts of cultures, thanks to their jet-setting upbringing courtesy of their diplomat father. Zhor Rais

From Casablanca, Zhor always wanted to be a designer. Even though traditional family opinions often were hurdles for her to overcome. Her father’s uniform workshop proved to be the perfect training ground for her to hone her skills in the art of construction. Her heritage always proves an exotic starting point but her global appeal in her silhouette shows that she is perfect for Muscat and beyond, having also shown at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.

Razan Alazzouni

Hailing from Saudi Arabia, Alazzouni graduated from Museum of Fine Arts in Boston as well as collecting a degree from TUFTS University. Her love for fine arts extended past fabrics as she also relishes in sculpture, paper-making and screen-printing. Such foundations were proof positive that she is ready for the catwalk. Her sculptural silhouettes with fabulous combinations of silks and chiffons creating a couture that is truly cosmopolitan. Celebs love her too with fresh starlets like Emma Roberts opting for her for their red carpet appearances.

Das

Emirati sisters Reem and Hind’s fashion mantra is to give the elegant abaya some modernity to fit with the rapidly changing realities that they live in. They have always adored using an interesting blend of colours, with fantastic draping skills and of course weaving in their traditional heritage in a stylish mix. When wearing Das, confidence is key.
