Every season Tokyo takes us on a fantastic fashionable journey through their runway presentations. In this two-parter coverage, we start with noting our favourite menswear designers that really caught our eye!

Jotaro Saito

We love seeing what designer Jotaro Saito comes up with season after season. With his hand in traditional garments, it’s always fascinating to see what textiles, patterns and cuts are incorporated in the Kimono scene. For Fall/Winter 2014 collection, Saito takes a bespoke approach with fantastic use of pinstripes either as lining or as the main pattern for the overall look.  Also love his daring block print designs and the eye-catching multi-coloured Missoni-esque pattern treatment.  Saito ability to modernize the traditional deserves a standing O.

Kidill

Designer Hiroaki Sueyasu has been designing for over 10 years with his move to England and debuting his collection at 2004 Fall/Winter season of London Fashion Week. Three years later he moved back to Tokyo Japan where he was able to set up a flagship store  “Honey’s Dead” in the electric Harajuku neighbourhood. This year is the launch of his Kidill line. His latest collection possesses and edgy urban feel with loose-fitting silhouette, flannel prints all flourished with asymmetrical cuts. Eye-catching pieces included the hiked up voluminous trousers, the button down tunic-style shirts and cool patchwork. Perfect for the fearless hipster.

Patchy Cake Eater

Another one of our favorite designers from Tokyo is Shigeki Morino with his line Patchy Cake Eater who always brings forth some fantastic colours and cuts in his runway presentation. This season Morino fearlessly takes fashion cues from the past with his line boasting a vintage vibe with the slim cut suits, Long blazers, vests and skinny ties and the his printed ruffle shirts. Very psychedelic indeed!

Coté Mer

The design team of Norio Sato and Seishi Naito takes to the streets for inspiration. Their Fall/Winter 2014 collection heralds the vibe of the local underground scene. Fur lined shorts, crisp blazers and strategic use of denim and camo-prints adds that extra voltage of cool to an already crisp collection.
