The Drake General Store is a carefully curated mix of hipster fashions and vintage Canadiana. It is the perfect boutique for finding a quirky but sure to be appreciated gift.

I’m sure everyone in Toronto secretly wishes for a spontaneous present from The Drake General Store. They started out with the 1144 Queen St West location a few doors down from the Drake Hotel than opened a second location on 82a Bathurst St then a third on 1011 Yonge St. They also have a warehouse on 442 Dufferin Street which you can easily spot from their trademark neon pharmacy sign.

The warehouse has sample sales throughout the year so signing up for email updates is a must. Like any good boutique they also offer an online shopping option.  Unlike Urban Outfitters (it’s nearest chain-store equivalent) there is an intimate atmosphere and a genuine feeling of having found something unique. An emphasis is placed on handmade and vintage items as well as cult classic brand names like the ubiquitous Pendleton.

They also have a small but quality selection of unisex grooming products which includes Claus Porto soaps and candles and Marvis toothpaste. A selection of quality publications are also available including The Visionaire boxed set Fairytale #59 as well as Independent Canadian fashion and art magazines. You might come in just to grab a roll of love hearts from the candy display at the cash desk but you’ll be back for their legendary sample sales and that perfect Valentine’s gift.
