During World MasterCard Fashion Week, held in Toronto,  I’ve had the pleasure to view designers that were new to me but also some of my favorites. One of those designers is Carrie Hayes. I first laid eyes on Hayes’ designs when she was a Toronto Fashion Incubator resident, where she launched her private label line called CARRIE in 2007.  The womenswear designer’s designs are clean sophistication with a play on architectural style.

Carrie’s work has been seen on ET Canada and Slice Network’s Revamped; also she’s been featured in Mudd magazine, National Post and HELLO! magazine to name a few.  So it was no surprise when, I fell in love with Ferhn, Hayes’ sister brand and more affordable line.

The show was held at Spoke Club located on King Street West in the Toronto entertainment district, and RAMP1885 was front row and centre for the Cayman Island inspired womenwear resort collection for Spring/Summer 2013.

Hayes’ love for the sophistication of the Cayman Islands showed in her vibrant collection which featured tones of canary yellow, bold coral, luscious plum, jewelled lime and a few neutral tone essentials like smokey grey, black and beige. The beauty trend was dewey skin with pop of colour lips along flowing tresses and messy chignons.  While all of the designs were exquisite, there were a few favourites, like the stylishly plum drop shoulder dress; the wrap back top paired with slim cuffed pants; coral curve top and cutaway sleeve top with the sexy pencil skirt.

After the show there was a quick q & a, where Hayes expressed her views on fashion, while she is getting tired of fast fashion she sees designers moving away from trends and personalizing their designs. Hayes says Ferhn is made with stretch fabrics for wearability and comfort and strives to highlight her clientele’s inner beauty and doesn’t want them to second guess if they look good.
