TFI (Toronto Fashion Incubator) 2011 New Labels winner Golnaz Ashtiani demonstrates she is no longer a newbie to the fashion world but rather a contender amongst her peers.  With a design aesthetic that flirts with minimalism and plays with futuristic design.

Ashtiani’s modern twist on retro classic designs, leave a lover of sportswear clamouring for her designs.  With a colour palette of cobalt blue, icy white mixed in with soft pastels which dominated the ASHTIANI collection, models with bold coral lips, nude faces, slick and simple hairstyles, sashayed down the runway in well-tailored separates that consist of leg baring minis, sleeveless tennis style frocks with mesh detailing, geometric oversized but tailored jackets along with beautifully draped dresses, which by the way stole the show.

We here at RAMP 1885 had an opportunity to ask Golnaz, about the inspiration behind her Spring/Summer collection here is what she had to say.

What was the inspiration/concept for your S/S0013 collection?

The inspiration came from south of France in early 60′s, with simplistic chic and luxe sportswear in mind. Feminine yet modern with an emphasis on peek-a -boo style combining sheer fabrics such as silk organza with PVC and textured cotton.

I noticed throughout the show how well the accessories complimented the clothing.  What is the name of the jewellery designer?

Bjørg by Bjørg Nordli-Mathisen (http://www.bjorgjewellery.com ) is a Norway based jewellery designer that makes incredible handmade jewellery pieces. We had an opportunity to use her latest collection of handmade pony hair jewellery for our show.

Lastly, who is the ASHTIANI woman?

She is a sophisticated woman, confident and fun, conscious of her style and individuality.
