After covering Fashion Week in Istanbul, I was ready to see fashion on the streets, not just the runways. I was eager to see fashion supported by the foreigners as well as the natives. My search for refined couture and an attentive audience took me to Zagreb and Count Jelacic Square, at the heart of high end fashion. My eye for fashion took me to two distinct boutiques, each with their own stamp on what is fashion.

Ivica Klaric has been recognized in Croatia as a leading designer for nearly fifteen years. As one of the country’s most celebrated designer’s of men’s couture, his clothes can best be described as upscale panache with fashion forward leanings. Known for his signature cuts draped over contrasting colors, his take on couture is timeless and unforgettable.

Luka Grubišic designs women’s clothes that speak to versatility with a nod to refined glamour. After working in New York in renown fashion houses for several years, including alongside Oscar de la Renta, he has returned to his native land with a line that is fun yet detailed, iconic yet retro. The primary age range for his line is no range. Grubišic is able to blur the lines of what is traditional, leaving his own unique, iconic stamp that has received the approval of a large legion of upwardly mobile society women in Zagreb and beyond.
