Baguio City, located in the northern part of the Luzon Island, is a mecca for local tourists during the hot summer months in the Philippines. Baguio’s cool climate is an alternative vacation spot for those who prefer to feel the cold breeze of the city rather than to get stoked in the beach.

A one-day stay in Baguio is not enough to visit all of the tourist spots, to dine in their popular restaurants and to shop in flea markets.  One should not miss shopping in flea markets to hunt and haggle for fashionable clothes and shoes. Since Baguio has a cooler climate, winter fashion exists. Scarves, parkas, boots, and bonnets can be commonly seen on the streets.

Baguio is an eco-friendly city with a lot of parks to visit. Wright Park is where you can go horseback riding. Aside from pine trees and strawberries, Baguio is widely known for its preserved indigenous culture and a haven for artists in the fields of painting, film, literature and sculpture. A tour around the city can bring you to different art exhibits and museums. Some restaurants are owned by artists and have served as a place to showcase their works.

Further north of Baguio City is La Trinidad where you can find the popular strawberry farm. Known as the strawberry capital of the Philippines, tourists can experience picking strawberries fresh from the field.

Baguio City stands out as one of the unique vacation spots in the Philippines. With summer starting this March, a lot of people will be flocking to the beaches, an abundance to boast since the country is surrounded by water. Manila will be hotter by then and Filipinos who can’t stand the heat will know where to go.
